Katherine Mehaffrey (Grafe)

Where are you now?

Northwest Rankin High School, Flowood, MS

Why did you choose to come to MSU?

I chose to attend MSU because of the captivating beauty and encouraging atmosphere of the campus. Each individual can easily find his or her "home away from home" there. The unique traditions there bind the student body together to create everlasting, enjoyable memories. I wanted to be able to be part of the Bulldog family, bound in Maroon and White.

How did the METP program enhance your college experience at Mississippi State?

METP gave me so many opportunities to get a head-start on the ability to engage in a classroom. Through school visits, tutoring opportunities, and constructive seminars, I was able to get exposure to the tasks for my future career. Even more so, however, METP connected me with a network of other enthusiastic future teachers and lifelong friends.

What were some of your on-campus involvements outside of METP?

Outside of METP, I was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority where I served as the Vice President of Member Development. I was also a member of Math Club and the Shackouls Honors College.

Please share a funny moment/interesting fact about yourself.

Not too long ago, I hiked six miles into the Grand Canyon to see the Colorado River, which was incredibly breathtaking. As a result, in the future, I plan on hiking the Grand Canyon from Rim to Rim to Rim, which is 47.8 miles.
