Where are you now?

Stone Bridge Elementary in Brandon, MS

Why did you decide to come to MSU and pursue a degree in education?

I had several colleges I wanted to visit, but after visiting MSU I felt like I was at home. The campus and town had a family feel and everyone was so welcoming. I instantly felt like MSU was where I belonged. When I was little I wanted to be a teacher like my mom and follow in her footsteps. However, as I grew older and saw how other teachers have made such a big impact in my life I knew that's what I wanted to do too. I aspired to make a difference in the lives of kids, and I was so glad that I had the privilege of doing that at MSU.

What do you want people to know about you?

I have a heart for foster and impoverished children. I enjoy volunteering at summer camps for foster children. I have been on two mission trips to the Dominican Republic where I was able to love on some sweet children in a local orphanage. I have also worked with Street Reach Ministries where I have had the privilege of working with some of the most precious children from an impoverished neighborhood in Memphis, TN.

Who has had the biggest impact on your life? Why?

My grandmother and mom have had the biggest impact in my life. My grandmother showed me what it looks like to be a strong, God-fearing woman even in the midst of her fight with cancer. My mom has shown me what it looks like to love the least of these like they are your very own. I see it every time she walks into her own classroom and I hope to do the same in my own classroom one day.
