Where are you now?

Quitman Junior High School in Quitman, MS

Why did you decide to come to MSU and pursue a degree in education?

I decided in high school that I wanted to pursue a career in education, because I wanted to help educate and encourage students.  During my time at MCC, I decided to apply to MSU.  Firstly, I felt that MSU had an excellent education department.  Secondly, the couple of times that I had visited the campus, I  liked the atmosphere.  Thirdly, the Starkville campus was close to home which allowed me to commute easily to stay close with my two younger sisters.

What do you want people to know about you?

I enjoy the outdoors.  Summer is my favorite season.   I am able to do the things I love which include fishing, cutting grass, gardening, and caring for our small family farm.

What advice would you give to entering freshmen or students finishing up high school?

My advice that I would give to any student entering or about to enter a university is to stay on top of assignments.  Procrastination is one of the many things that can hurt your college career.  I have found myself digging out of a hole that I put myself into at the beginning of the semester.  Watch out for deadlines!  Find a method of reminding yourself when something is due.  Trust me, they will sneak up on you and then you are up at 2am trying to finish a paper or project that you had two weeks to complete.
