Why did you decide to come to MSU and pursue a degree in education?

Of all of the great schools in Mississippi that offer education programs, MSU was without doubt the best option for me because not only do they offer a high quality education that holds a high reputation to possible employers after graduation, but the atmosphere of student life and the personable nature of all the faculty and teachers completely erased any doubt that MSU was the school for me. I felt that the education and experiences available to me here would best prepare me to reach my goals in teaching which is to create an environment where my students can learn and be inspired not only in the world of music but also in their own individual walks of life.

What do you want people to know about you?

I can sometimes come off as a little bit standoffish, but I promise I’m actually a nice person once you get to know me. I obviously love music, but I’m also an avid reader of anything fictional, psychological, philosophical, etc. I enjoy drawing/painting and really anything creative.

What advice would you give to entering freshmen or students finishing up high school?

Start looking up scholarships as soon as possible, keep track of dates like submissions for transcripts, dorm applications, class schedules etc., do NOT be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something.
Go to class, do your assignments, listen to your teachers, don’t blow things off because “it’s not that important”. I’ve seen so many students start panicking at the end of the semester because their gpa dropped or sometimes even just straight up fail a class because they missed too many “small” assignments.
For people who are already academically driven, don’t forget to put yourself out there, make friends and enjoy yourself occasionally. You never know who you might meet!
